This excellent DQHD Samsung 49-inch gaming monitor is currently 22% off on Amazon, and reduced from $999.99 to $779.99. For a monitor this massive, that’s a great price if you ask us, especially as it has an impressive DisplayHDR 600 certification, FreeSync Premium Pro, 144Hz refresh rate, and a steep 1000R curve. This is the type of monitor that’s ideal for those who want something super immersive that’s going to take anything from open-world games to simulators to a whole new level. For under $780, it’s competitively priced for a Samsung monitor, and well worth considering while it’s still reduced.

Key features of this Samsung 49-inch Odyssey G9 gaming monitor

DQHD resolution

This screen is essentially two 1440p monitors fused, so rather than getting a lower resolution and merely increasing the screen size, DQHD preserves pixel density across the entire display, giving you a uniform QHD picture quality. The good news is that it’s also easier to run games at this resolution than 4K, meaning you don’t need to have the absolute S-tier of graphics cards to get the most out of this display.

49-inch display with 1000R curve

Essentially, the size and curvature of immersion make this monitor really for those who want to play games and feel like they’re completely absorbed into them. Simulators, open-world games, and racing games come to life with a monitor like this, and with its impressive lifelike picture quality, they’re even more immersive.

DisplayHDR 600

These certifications can be a little confusing, but in short, a monitor that earns a DisplayHDR 600 certification is one that’s firmly in the upper-end when it comes to color, contrast, and brightness. You can expect vivid and accurate colors, deep blacks, and brightness that’s at least 600 nits, which is good for highlights, but also good for general visability in well-lit rooms.

144Hz, 1ms, and FreeSync Premium Pro

This monitor’s refresh rate is high enough for fast-paced gameplay at up to 144fps, and its response time is low enough to reduce motion blur and ghosting. What’s really great, though, is its top-tier FreeSync Premium Pro adaptive sync technology, which, alongside eliminating screen tearing and reducing stutter, has low framerate compensation and is specifically designed to improve HDR gaming performance.

Things to consider

For the price, this monitor brings a lot to the table, but there are a lot of alternatives worth considering that are also DQHD. QD-OLED options would be my pick for more lifelike picture quality, and while they may not be as bright, they’re going to add a level of immersion that’s pretty much unmatched with other, more traditionally backlit monitors. They’re also generally thinner, which looks better, in my opinion at least. You’ll also want to be very aware that monitors this big with this type of curve aren’t the best for design work. While you could use them for video editing, they’re not ideal, and I’d highly advise a less aggressive curve if you’re doubling it up as a content creation station.
